I fiumi raccontano storie antiche: sono testimoni del passaggio del tempo, custodi di memorie di popoli, commerci, conflitti e incontri culturali. Nel corso dei secoli i loro nomi possono cambiare, ma i percorsi e le vicende che hanno attraversato rimangono impressi nella storia.
FLUMEN si propone di esplorare questa relazione tra natura e memoria attraverso un linguaggio visivo e sensoriale. L’opera combina fotografie di percorsi d'acqua con bicchieri di cristallo sovrapposti, creando una stratificazione che riflette la sovrapposizione di tempo, storia e percezione. I bicchieri, fragili e trasparenti, evocano la delicatezza della memoria e la capacità dei fiumi di contenere e trasmettere storie, mentre le immagini dei fiumi restituiscono la forza e la continuità del loro fluire.
La sovrapposizione tra cristallo e acqua diventa metafora della memoria liquida, di un passato che si sedimenta ma continua a scorrere, creando connessioni tra storia, cultura e natura. I fiumi, come le vie percorse dall’umanità, diventano così luoghi di riflessione e di incontro, spazi in cui la fragilità e la forza convivono, invitando il pubblico a percepire la storia non solo come racconto, ma come esperienza visiva e sensibile.
Project statement
Rivers tell ancient stories: they are witnesses to the passage of time, keepers of memories of peoples, trade, conflicts, and cultural encounters. Over the centuries, their names may change, but the courses they have carved and the events they have witnessed remain etched in history.
FLUMEN seeks to explore this relationship between nature and memory through a visual and sensory language. The work combines photographs of rivers with overlapping crystal glasses, creating a layering that reflects the overlap of time, history, and perception. The glasses, fragile and transparent, evoke the delicacy of memory and the rivers’ capacity to hold and transmit stories, while the images of the rivers convey the strength and continuity of their flow.
The juxtaposition of crystal and water becomes a metaphor for liquid memory, a past that settles yet continues to flow, forging connections between history, culture, and nature. Rivers, like the paths traveled by humanity, thus become places for reflection and encounter, spaces where fragility and strength coexist, inviting the audience to experience history not only as a narrative but as a visual and sensory experience.
