The eyes see the world. The gaze transforms it into experience.
Visio Temporis explores the gaze as a threshold through which the visible world enters consciousness. To look does not simply mean to register what appears. The gaze observes, selects, and interprets; it moves beyond the surface of things, searching beyond their immediate form for a reality that does not belong entirely to the visible.
Time continually intervenes in this process. Every experience changes the way we see, depositing memories, emotions, and perceptions within consciousness that overlap with the present. No gaze is separate from what we have lived: we observe the world through the layers that time has built within us.
Throughout the images, faces and surfaces fragment, erode, and overlap, while the eyes retain a persistent presence. They do not simply represent individual identity, but become a point of passage between the world and consciousness. Through the gaze, reality can move beyond its visible boundaries and open itself to memory, imagination, and that suspended dimension in which experience and dream can coexist.
The masks of time are therefore the multiple forms through which we construct our perception of ourselves and of reality. Every gaze carries within it what has been, while also preserving the possibility of moving beyond what appears. The eye encounters the world; the gaze questions it, attempting to penetrate its essence.
Photography does not document this process; it makes it perceptible. Fragmentation, superimposition, and alterations of the image are not formal effects, but instruments through which the stability of the visible is called into question. Photographic reality thus becomes an inner space in which time, memory, and imagination participate in the formation of consciousness.
Visio Temporis questions the moment when seeing ceases to be a purely visual act and becomes a form of knowledge. The gaze moves through the masks constructed by time and searches, beyond what appears, for a possible essence of things.
