Basta leggere i libri di storia per comprendere l'importanza del mar Mediterraneo. Il Mare Nostrum, come lo chiamavano i Romani, ha rappresentato per secoli, ed è tutt'ora, la via per lo sviluppo di commerci e civiltà. Ma come ogni fonte che genera vita, allo stesso modo può generare dolore e morte, gioia e disperazione.
L'elaborazione ed il taglio grafico che ho voluto dare alle foto di incantevoli scorci mediterranei vogliono testimoniare il complesso rapporto che ho con questo mare. Dietro la bellezza della natura e dei manufatti umani si nascondono i drammi e il duro lavoro di quanti ogni giorno, fin dai primi tempi, hanno dovuto confrontarsi con questa realtà. Orizzonti di speranza, imbarcazioni di lavoro, economia del mare, antiche città portuali, il tutto ricondotto agli elementi primordiali del caos. Il segni del tempo danno il senso allo spazio.
Project Statement
One need only read history books to understand the importance of the Mediterranean Sea. The Mare Nostrum, as the Romans called it, has represented for centuries, and still represents, the gateway to the development of trade and civilization. But like any source of life, it can also generate pain and death, joy and despair.
The processing and graphic style I chose to give to the photographs of enchanting Mediterranean views are intended to demonstrate the complex relationship I have with this sea. Behind the beauty of nature and human artifacts lie the dramas and hard work of those who, since ancient times, have had to confront this reality every day. Horizons of hope, working vessels, the maritime economy, ancient port cities, all traced back to the primordial elements of chaos. The signs of time give meaning to space.
