Dichiarazione di progetto
La Basilica nasce nell'antica Roma come struttura pubblica utilizzata per amministrare la giustizia e trattare affari. E' in questo modo che ho voluto rivedere le forme e i volumi di un moderno palazzo di giustizia situato a Firenze. Nulla è cambiato nel corso dei millenni in quanto a importanza di un tale edificio. Sontuosità, grandezza, armonia e funzionalità ancora oggi rappresentano i pilasti essenziali del luogo dove vengono amministrate le sorti delle umane vicende. La grandezza del genio costruttivo comparata paradossalmente alla miseria delle vicende umane. Come in un continuum temporale, mentre scattavo mi pareva di sentire le discussioni dei giudici e degli avvocati, ma anche le grida, la disperazione, i pianti e le rivalse di quanti, nel corso di questi millenni, in ogni Basilica di questo mondo, ne sono entrati nella speranza di ottenere giustizia. Il tempo può cambiare la forma della materia, ma lo spirito che la anima rimane immutato.
Project Statement
The Basilica originated in ancient Rome as a public structure used to administer justice and conduct business. It is in this way that I wanted to revisit the forms and volumes of a modern courthouse located in Florence. Nothing has changed over the millennia in the importance of such a building. Splendour, grandeur, harmony, and functionality still represent the essential pillars of the place where the fate of human affairs is administered. The grandeur of the architectural genius paradoxically contrasts with the misery of human affairs. As if in a time continuum, while I was shooting, I seemed to hear the arguments of the judges and lawyers, but also the shouts, desperation, cries, and demands of those who, over the course of these millennia, have entered every Basilica in this world in the hope of obtaining justice. Time may change the shape of matter, but the spirit that animates it remains unchanged.
